About Jonny Hirtenstein

I specialise in treating chronic (long-term) and complex problems, and also helping people optimise their well-being

How you feel today is the result of multiple experiences and influences on your body. Your wellbeing is a deeply personal and interconnected phenomenon, unique to you. Sometimes the solution to a medical problem is obvious and straightforward and this is where the application of conventional medicine and treatments work well; however, many of us battle to find a resolution for ongoing illness and pain, and we’re left feeling as though we must simply accept our suffering. This need not be the case

Your body is fully able to communicate what it needs. My job is to engage your body – the entire system – in a discourse that enables us together to understand the issues and obstacles in the way of you feeling well. The work we do in this way will uncover unresolved conditions, release blockages, and clear the way for your body to function optimally.

This might take just a few sessions or a longer-term approach reviewing a number of lifestyle changes. Either way, the foundations for a healthy, energised body will be renewed and you will enjoy a newfound trust in your body and its capacity to heal itself.

“We cannot solve our problems with the same thinking we used when we created them”

- Albert Einstein

My story

After suffering low back problems following a bike accident in my late teens, I discovered chiropractic and osteopathy and was blown away by the difference they made. Then, in my mid-twenties, I discovered yoga and meditation and saw how they transformed my physical and mental health.

I graduated from the Anglo-European College of Chiropractic (AECC) in 2013 and set up as a traditional chiropractor but I soon felt I wanted do more for my clients, particularly those for whom the right treatment wasn’t immediately obvious. After the birth of my daughter, I also began experiencing some health issues of my own (I’m sure all the parents out there who have suffered sleep deprivation will understand what I mean!).

I needed to explore more powerful healing approaches both inside and outside the world of chiropractic. I realised how very limiting it is to view the body only as series of moving (or not moving!) parts. There is so much more to our physical health than we might imagine, or even be able to explain, and in my experience it is unhelpful to be too prescriptive or limited in our approach to our health.

Methods and approach

From the foundations of my work and training as a chiropractor, I use a uniquely powerful system called Gateway to Health, which was developed by world-renowned osteopath Richard Holding. I also apply techniques from Neurological Integration System (NIS), developed by New Zealand osteopath Allan Phillips. Both of these approaches draw on inspiration from a more well-known system called Applied Kinesiology. I’m also a member of the Academy for Chiropractic Nutrition (ACN).

Perhaps most importantly, I will look at your wellbeing in the broadest sense, from nutrition, daily rituals, sleep, and more. We might even get talking about saunas! The point is, we work as a team to get the fullest picture of your health and set about optimising it together.

Taking back control

Both my professional and personal life have highlighted how disconnected many of us feel from our bodies. We live in a culture where solutions to our problems are sought externally, and this is especially the case when it comes to our health. However, my work has taught me that we are our own best healers, and can hold the solution within ourselves.

Your body is an incredibly intelligent and sensitive system – it wants to be well – the problem is many of us have become detached from certain aspects of our body’s system. I love seeing people turning around their lives, suffering less, shifting their perspective and realising that health and wellbeing are a core part of a fulfilling life.

Through constant training and seeking out ground-breaking methods of exploring full-body health, I work to help people reconnect and rebuild with their innate capacity to heal and thrive physically, emotionally and spiritually, and always with the root cause in mind.
