What is chiropractic?

Understanding your treatment

Chiropractic helps the body to function optimally, by supporting its natural ability to self-heal, self-regulate, and self-organize. Our body needs to do this in order to adapt to our ever-changing environment. Chiropractors do a great job helping people with back and neck pain, which we are commonly associated with. However, there is much more to chiropractic than just pain management.

Treatment beyond the symptoms

You could think of pain as a smoke alarm - when it goes off it tells you there’s a problem but it doesn’t tell you where the fire is or why it started. Recovering from pain and restoring function are important but it is just as important to understand why our issue started so that we can prevent or minimize the likelihood of it recurring. I believe helping you understand these factors is an important part of the treatment plan because ultimately this will have a longer-lasting impact on your life.

Whatever symptoms you are presenting, at Foundation For Life we work with the long-term view of improving your overall health.

“I don’t know why this started, it just came on!”

Being open-minded about our condition

Pain and discomfort can seem to come out of nowhere. The root cause of our condition is not often obvious.

When an issue arises we tend to focus on the physical strains we have been putting on our body, but this is just one of an array of different stresses that may lead to discomfort. The impact of chemical, emotional and sleep factors should also be explored.

Issues rarely arise because of just one stress but rather a ‘perfect storm’ of events over a period of time.

Chiropractic aims to address the root cause of your issue, not just the symptomatic aspect of it. This is why it can be the best means to prepare for longer term health improvement.

Oxford Chiropractor

How to choose a chiropractor

Location is of course important. I’m based in Appleton which is very near Oxford and Abingdon, but patients come to me from Witney, Swindon, Didcot, Newbury, and beyond.

As with many professions, there are many different approaches and as a patient it can be challenging knowing where to start when choosing a practitioner. I offer all new patients a free phone consultation before booking a treatment to make sure we’re a good fit, and I’m always happy to recommend colleagues if I think their approach is more appropriate. I love what I do and I’m always happy to talk and help figure out the best route for your health goals.
